yes but normally its the girls that are SUPPOSED to go EWW! a RaaAaaT or "oh its slimy! a frog!" and yet were the ones that buy them for pets most often. i talked with a person from a pet once about it. he says that they sell more spiders to female customers as well. so for the gender that's not supposed to like the creepy crawly things that go bump (or croak) in the night we sure do buy them enough....

Hahahahaha!!!! I know what you mean I used to love playing with spiders and I would even search out and catch black widows and...well...torture'em.... But now I have a heart attack every time one shows up out of noware!

I finally got scared one morning when I woke up to one of those house dady longlegs hanging inches above my face. I was on a bunkbed top bunk. I slumped down got my pillow smashed it and screamed me head off for like five minutes.

The bunkbed incident happened like 7-9 years ago. I still get freaked every time a spider shows up out of noware but IF I know where the spider is I'm ok and I'll let it live as long as it stays where it is and it's noware near me but if it move or comes near me the truce is off and it either gets put outside or squashed.

Sexist!

I appreciate the biological differences in necessity for females and males, these being sexes, and the differences therein being due to sex, thus the determinations thereof are sexist.

Maybe.

cjshrader

If I may throw my single psychology course into this...

I think more females are rat owners than males (Hence why more females are on this forum than males). And I think that's because since a significantly large portion of females think of rats as disgusting vermin, as a result a small (yet significant) portion of females are going to rebel against that stereotype, consciously or subconsciously, and get rats.

But that's just my theory. I'm a computer science major, not a psychologist.

Man I wish I knew more about cars though.

Forensic

I think you may be quite correct. Rats are traditionally a 'male' pet. And therefore the somewhat 'rebellious' amongst the femmes will take them under their wing. I'd think men still do own them and appreciate them, however they may not feel the need to be as public about it?

I learned a lot about cars by joining a car forum...

Personally, I just find that females mature quicker when it comes to responsibility and caring for things. Plus, it's kind of in a female's nature to want to nurture and care for, at least usually.

Forensic

True, but by the age of most posters - late teens onward - boys should be beginning to catch up on the responsibility at the least.

And I think the urge to raise a being is there in both, but the babying urge appears moreso in women...

I guess.

Sky14

cjshrader

I agree!

Though of course all people should be treated equal under the law, it's silly to act like men and women, on average, aren't different. It may very well be that women are more apt to care for something than men.

Edit: Oh, and I know for sure there are more dudes, I see them post elsewhere in the forum. I guess they just ignore this post?

twitch
04-25-2007, 06:44 AM
they're male. it has actually been proven that given the same job withthe same requirements men will make on average 10-15% more then women. its just the way the system works. though, until recently us women would get a discount in car insurance simply for being female. so it happens quite freqently and in pretty unfair ways most often that system is sexist. its not great but at least we can work and get paid for it. other systems don't even have that. mind you other cultures are different too so the emphasis on making it rich isn't as great either. in any case, as much as it sucks, cjshrader is right.

that's not statistics though fallin. that's sterotypes. statistics are numbers drawn from research. when comparing average salaries of men and women men make more. even if the job is the same in some cases. its not a sterotype, its a piece of data collected from extensive research. it doesn't mean its fair but it does show us what's going on. if you want to change it all the more power to you. it was people that wanted change that got the women rights that we have now. why settle for that eh? i say go for the whole nine yards! though without organization and some really proactive people that won't happen and even if you had all that you probably won't see much change in your life time. you know, i don't know where i'm going with this rant so i'm going to stop. my point was that statistics are cold fact of current and past research not something you can fight directly.

I've always wondered if that average salary thing is based on *all* women and *all* men. If so, I would imagine that more men work than women, therefore of course they would be making higher on average than the women if housewives are added in.

Then, if it's only working men versus working women, well, that's a different problem.

Forensic

In many cases the studies have a disclaimer - amongst those working the same job. So in that case, housewives aren't an issue.
