Hello,
I am so happy to have found this website. I have throughly enjoyed browsing through all the topics and learning so much. I have decided to get a pair of rats. I'm not sure of the gender, but I know I want two. I was wondering if you all think this cage would be appropriate? I'm planning on getting it powder-coated. I entered it into the 'rat calculator' and it said it would fit 3, so i figured since I only want two they would have a little extra space. I'm having such a hard time deciding on a suitable cage, this one is my first pick so far. I would love to hear your thoughts.

you should get two females if you getting that cage.....
males get alot bigger than females.

that is a pretty nice cage though i prefer other cages.

I'd spring for the flip-top lid, so many people say it's tons easier to clean the cage with that.

I second this suggestion. Our Martins has the flip top and it makes clean up so much easier than I imagine it would be without. I was concerned our girls would realize they can push the top up to get out, but they never have. I make sure to hang hammocks and other toys from the edges as a way to secure the top down and so far that seems to be adequate.

Before you buy a cage, remember that it's very possible that you may want more rats in the future (I think most people that started out with two were quickly afflicted with GGMR, as was I). I always recommend that people get the biggest cage they can afford, because you may run across a rat that needs you one day. :)

I also agree with this. We started out with two and within the week went back to get two more. Get the largest cage you can afford and your space will allow.

best advice... it is always best to go with the biggest cage you can afford & place in the space you plan to use

even if you only keep two rats you can be sure that you have adequate space

I also suggest getting the powder coated version if you're getting a Martin's cage.
