Please use common sense. Any smoke around an animal, especially small animals, can be harmful.
Also, consider an attitude adjustment. I understand that you're quick to be defensive because it's a controversial subject, but jeez.
you said you understand, thank you, why the but jeez? I was being honest. restated what I posted. I wasn't insulting..?

Haven't Rats been subjected to enough chemicals in their long sad history?
There isn't any definitive answer to whether Grass is a Plus or Minus the debate is endless.
Regarding your animal it would be safer to ere on the side of caution than to regret it later on,so I would protect my rat from POSSIBLE negative actions from 2nd hand weedsmoke.

I NEVER said I would blow smoke in their faces! I don't want to get them high! wow. common sense. I has it.
Ok, but you never said you were not going too. And I said so long as you're not blowing smoke in their face then they shouldn't have an increase in heart rate. That's a pretty straight forward answer, and if you had some common sense then there would be no reason so ask the question. If you don't plan to get them high then just put them in the other room when you smoke... Wow common sense. I needed a PhD to figure that one out. jeez.
so, you're saying being in the same apartment as them is the same as blowing it in their faces?
I think this was just a misunderstanding, let's not argue about it.. we've given you research and studies and I think that's what you wanted
My room mate and I will occasionally smoke pot. When we do, we go outside on the balcony, and I have "pot clothes" (haha), these are the clothes I smoke up in, so when I get back into the house I change into non-smelling clothes so that the rats don't get irritated by the smell. The clothes I wore while smoking, I hang on the balcony to try and get the smell out before I put them in my hamper to be washed.
I recommend you don't smoke up indoors, and close your windows while you're smoking up outside just in case the wind wafts some of the smoke indoors.

Hmmm... Where did I say that anywhere? In fact... I believe I said this
"if you don't plan to get them high then just put them in the other room when you smoke"
You already live in an apartment, second hand smoke is impossible to escape. I just don't condone smoking in the same room. I shouldn't have said 'blowing it in their faces' sorry. You never really said what your intentions were though, You just said you smoke weed and you have rats so what happens when the two mix.

-random note-
Rats, and EVERY OTHER rodent I've ever had any experience with absolutely LOVES to EAT weed. So be mindful not to leave nugs sitting about with free roaming rats or they will disappear.

Well lets seee.........most people are not that irresponsible to smoke that nasty stuff around their pets who they are supposed to care about. You ahev been rude in your comments to people so if Im rude to you now I cant say I apologize. You are supposed to be caring for those tiny little guys, what do you think it will do to them? Use common sense. You chose to have them to look out for them, if you cant get them adopted by someone who can and is willing to grow up. This is a forum, its all opinions and thoughts from peoples past experiences. If you cant handle that dont ask questions on here. Its hard to know some people are cruel to their pets and get away with it.

hmmm...aparently asking a simple question on here involves getting yelled at rather then answered.
joslynn06 just had a simple question. no one needed to assume the worst and flame to death.
i wouldn't think the smoke would be good for them.
but what do i know? lol

joslynn06, I tried really hard not to bring up the whole assume thing. I laughed pretty hard when I read that, so true. Sorry for being an ass.

joslyn, I am human, and I am not as sensitive as rats, but I have sensitive airways..
Last summer i started caughing, I could not figure vut way, my friend and her husband who lives here are not allowed to smoke indoors..
I was caughing for 3 months (Im very sensitive towards cigarettes) and I could not figure out way, finally I started popping my blood wessels again I HATE that, caughing blood even minor is highly annoying..
a lil while after I caught my friends husband cheating on her, and he got thrown out, 3 weeks after that my caugh cleared, and I had still not figured out the source.. now, just recently my friend discovered a hidden glas in the room they lived in, full with cigarette butts...
I live on first floor they on second, the air had travelled in the ventilations despite him hanging out the window (my niehgbour told me later), and I reacted to that..
and rats are more sensitive than me, so I would suggest to go out.. smoke from marijuana or cigarrets really has a way of getting around..
good luck with your new little critters

Marijuana smoke is quite different from cigarette smoke. Several studies have shown weed being good for asthma, tumors, and several other things. When Brett was diagnosed with a PT I got her high pretty regularly. I have a love/hate relationship with weed though and stopped smoking for a time. About 2 weeks to a month after I quit she died.
She was dying anyway so don't act like I hate my animals. Haha.
OP, think of how you react to weed before trusting nonsmokers. I would never smoke cigs around my rats. They're full of harmful chemicals, and that's just fact. Weed has none of those chemicals. HOWEVER.
Marijuana smoke is harsh when blowed into the nasal passages or throat. SO I still wouldn't recommend smoking around them. But in the same house, or if you vape it rather than smoke it, then they'll be fine.

I think the concern is over the smoke itself. It's not really about the effects of the drug. Smoke is smoke. I wouldn't recommend lighting a bonfire in front of their cage, either.
