If we start launching an investigation for every person who breeds feeders for it's reptiles...
I mean, they are treated like feeders, like food by these persons. And they are not against the law, reptiles need to eat too. And animal protections laws are ltteraly ridiculous here in Quebec. We are soooo behind every other civilized countries for this kind of thing.

And like you say Nertnie, I couln't do anything. And it happened so fast. One day she was healthy and playfull and the other, she was so sick...

Looking at the second picture I'd say she was in alot of pain, her genitals look severely infected. I know breeding rats for snakes is aloud, I agree snakes have to eat too. But im pretty sure no civilized country allows cruelty to animals. The girl was young and did all she could, as did you. But the parents discust me. How can they see an animal covered in blood and pus and not want to help it pronto. Like you say, without the body or photographs for proof you'd have a weak case anyway, but it wouldnt hurt to let them the spca know, and they can keep an eye out or drop by... maybe that will be enough to educate the parents that everything living has rights and needs. Dont let your little girl suffer for no reason, you might even save her family. If the spca wont listen, bring it to media attention - newspaper etc.

No she wasnt healthy one day and sick the next. The infection prob started on the inside and looks like to worked its way out. Can you imagine peeing from an inflammed and infected part of your body. I believe the reason she died, was something ruptured inside and most likely poisned her blood or something. You cant save her now, but you can certainly attempt to better the life of the rest of her family who are suffering.

Sorry to hear things didn't work out with the little girl. At least she's no longer suffering. This is a hard situation to deal with since it was completely out of your hands. You could take the time to report them, I'm sure the spca gets floated with reports on rodent cruelty. Technically you see it in almost every pet store, and there isn't much done about it. You can report this girl and her family and burn your bridge with them and possibly have the spca do nothing about it. It's you're call on what you feel right about doing.

J'suis super-triste apres avoir lu cette histoire - la petite rat etait vraiment mignonne! Elle avais de mauvais chance. 

Je vous souhaite le bonheur, continuez avec vos bons efforts pours les rats du Quebec. Ce n'est pas seulement a votre partie du Canada ou on ne sait rien des rats que comme la nourriture pour autres animaux - l'Angleterre se tient aux moyennes ages aussi, tant pis. Il faut toujours lutter pour changer les opinions de ceux qui sont ignorants de la joie que donnent les rats!

En effet, c'est en luttant même lorsque nos actions individuelles ne donnent rien qu'on finit par changer les choses et les perceptions des gens. J'espère que cette histoire fera prendre conscience aux parents de cette jeune fille qu'elle n'est peut-être pas la seule «folle» à aimer les rats, et qu'il y a peut-être une raison à celà.

Since the trip to the girl's place was already organized and I haven't lost the interest in saving one of these babies life, I've decided to give a chance to an other little rat. I asked the young girl to choose me a healthy and social little girl and that's the lucky one:

Now she's about 4½ weeks so I think she was 1 month old when the picture was taken.

She's so pretty. =3
And she's dumbo! And apparently she's big compared to her litter mates and she seems very healthy and social.

Even if the patched one was unlucky, at least one of these babies will be saved. And maybe an other one will be saved actually, because I may bring an other one for someone living on my way to the girl's home.
