Thread: Treat Thief

  1. #1

    Default Treat Thief

So I had just changed my rat's bedding and as a reward for being so good about things I gave them both a treat. Each took it and went to their separate corners to eat. I don't know of Holly didn't like hers or what but she decided to run over and steal Naomi's treat right from her mouth only to take it to her corner and drop it there. I'd get it and give it back to Naomi and Holly would run over and do the same thing again! What's up with that? Is there something I can do to break Holly of that?

I'd like some input on that too, my Nibbler does that to Nico all the time. It's overly annoying.

Roxy does that to Doris, she also tries it with Mavis, but she sticks up for herself.
I put it down to the more dominate of the group doing what they want and getting their own way.

My rats do that to each other all the time... my theory is that treats taste much better when they're someone else's!

Oh my new Bailey does this to Juno! He's much smaller than juno and en though theres a big size diff I give them an equal portion of treat, Bailey stashes his then sweeps right under Juno and steals his. The Juno looks at me all hurt. I have to separate them sometimes just so Juno can have something. It's funny Bailey copies everything Juno does, if Juno eats Bailey pushed in under Juno into the bowl, or if Juno drinks he comes and pushed in and starts licking the bottle as well :S Greedy little bugger. Steals Juno's pats to!

My rat Nibble doesn't something to the same extent. But rather, instead of stashing, she'll just scarf whatever treat I've given and then if Brain still has hers leftover, Nibble will steal it.
