Default New rat owner: Reclusive rat will pull the other rat into their hut

    Hi,

2 weeks I got 2 young male rats around 6 weeks old. When I got them one was very outgoing and loved to climb on my hand. The other was more shy although he will take food from my hand (and then run back into hiding). I thought this would get better but instead it seems the shy rat influences the other one and they are both more reclusive. I have even seen that the shy rat will pull the other rat back into the hut when he tries to climb on my hand. He will pull him by the tail or grab him at his side.

Does anybody have any ideas how to handle this? I don't want both rats to end up fearful of me. I'd like to add that they are not aggressive, they don't bite or similar.

    Any help is welcome.

    Max

Take them both in their own hideout ,so you don't have to catch them,to a small rat proof area like a bathroom. Close the toilet lid and check under counters for escape holes. Then let them roam around you and discover you. Sit still and talk softly.Gradually move slowly etc. Eventually they will come around, mine did. You can probably easy "catch" them in their hideout to go back into their cage. Do it every day for at least half an hour.
