    Default HELP! Rat escaped!

So one of my rats escaped from the cage the other night. We have been trying to catch her ever since. She is running around in the basement, which is so full of junk and hiding places, she is almost impossible to find. Every time I see her, she runs away, which I find very strange because she's usually very friendly. What can I do to help me catch her? I have dogs and I'm worried she might get hurt by one of them. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks

    Any luck catching her yet?

Is she confined to the basement? Or can she get out of there? If she's confined I would make sure that the dogs have no access to the basement.

In the meantime, make sure there is food and water in the basement so that she doesn't starve. If it were me I would get a couple of friends to help me and work on cornering her but obviously I don't know how possible that is in your house.

You can buy humane rat traps that do not harm/kill the rat.. they work by luring the rat with a treat into a box and then a door closes behind them, if it gets to the point where you can't catch her yourself, a trap like this may be your best option!

Another possible option would be to put her cage down there with the door open- as its a place of safety for her, you may find she chooses to get back in it.

    Good luck.

That would be the best option since she knows her cage. make Sure that your other rats can't get out as well by putting a divider in the cage if at all possible. Then put the cage in a dark corner so it feels safe for her. Or maybe clean out the basement, who knows what else you'll find.
Hope there are no wild lovers in their with her

GOOD NEWS! I caught her! She was a little freaked out but other than that she looks fine. I'm so relieved!

So glad you found her! Marshmallow escaped last weekend and it was awful. Luckily we found her behind the stove and I was able to fish her out. She's also very tame and yet would run and hide everytime she'd hear us
