    Exclamation Bloody urine....Help!

Ok, so my boys (8wks) have been on baytril for a month for URI. Two weeks ago azythromycin was added bc the URI went to a lower resp infection. That cleared up fine. Friday was their last dose of baytril and now they are on azythromycin alone for 2 wks, once a day. Woke up this AM to bloody urine in several places of the cage. Phineas appeared puffed up, tail felt cold to me, and clearly feeling miserable. Separated them to confirm the source of the blood and now both boys have each urinated and its normal clear/pale yellow. What the heck is going on? Gave Phin a dose of baytril before separating them and been syringe feeding ensure every few hours and his fur is back to normal. Not sure what to think....thoughts?

Does anyone have any injuries near their genitals? This is very strange...

No, none. I've checked both boys penises, testicles, even rectums. They are spotless and on a Siamese and Him (I assume based on their coloring), it should be really obvious. The bloody urine spots were what would amount to probably 3 voiding. Each in separate areas of the cage so not from one incident, I'm certain it is urine as it looked like dried urine and smelled of urine. It was very hot yesterday and while we have AC on I'm wondering if it could have been a dehydration issue...though both boys skin snaps right back. I'm at a loss. I just can't figure it out. Other possibility, could Phin have passed a stone last night?! I just can't figure it out.

I was sold on UTI, too, that's why I restarted the baytril...I'm just confused as to why there has been no bloody urine today. It is my understanding that an untreated UTI should get worse or at least stay the same and the baytril couldn't have worked that fast, KWIM? Mystery. Putting the boys back together bc the separation is starting to stress them and hoping no more funky urine. Still open to all theories....

From what I gather, baytril is the default UTI med if the urine has not been cultured. I opted to not give a second baytril dose bc I haven't seen any blood today and I don't want to attribute that to one dose of baytril if it's not really the baytril making a difference, if that makes sense. I'll wait and see what the cage looks like tomorrow and go from there, I guess.

Me, too. It's been a rough road for them so far, as they've been sick since day one when I brought them home. I'll post an update tomorrow. Thanx for your concern, I really appreciate it.
