Default Does this cage look suitable for a roof rat?

I don't know if there is anyone here with experience with roof rats. They are NOT a domesticated rat so they are VERY flightly and nervous. I raised mine with a bottle just before his eyes opened. He's about 4 weeks old right now. Does this cage look OK for him? He's in a tank now but I read that there is not enough air circulation for roof rats in a tank so I want to move him into this one. They are supposed to enjoy climbing. It's the cage on the top, his tank is below.

Not at all, that's not even suitable for a mouse or hamster. Get him a large wire cage, like a rat manor, Martin cage, or critter nation (since he's a wild rat and more prone to chewing a second hand rat manor might be best since it has a metal pan and no plastic)

I understand why it wouldn't be with him since you mentioned the chewing but why not a hamster? Same reason? Glad I only paid $5.00

Its way too small. I saw your pics in another post so as a temporary enclosure it should be ok, as he's so tiny. But tiny or not, he's going to need a lot of space soon enough and better ventilation. I have a hendyx prevue rat/chin cageand the bar spacing is very tight so good for a docile guy. Its also all powder co attend metal. For me its been easy to clean and my 2 boys love it.

Go with a Martin's. Great layouts for active rats and very secure for wildlings.

Size, not chewing. Most dwarf hamster are crampt in them, also difficult to clean.
