Ah yes, I'm absolutely covered in little scratches, I've almost gotten used to it. A couple of friends and I were at a house show a while back and I heard her whispering to her husband "Look at all the little scratches on her chest, I miss owning rats!" It was pretty funny

My boys were really bad about scratching me when I first had 'em, but at this point, they've learned how to stay on my shoulders and arms without their claws, so I'm relatively scratch-free Unless I put them both on my shoulders and they both decide to cross over at the same time...two rats trying to go behind your head at once is never fun :P

Oh of course, I researched the proper methodology of rat nail clipping lol. Yea I'm actually really surprised she stood it for that long, but my other girl was just too wiggly for me to do without help. I had her on my shoulder today and omg it's such a big difference, even though I didn't get all her toes. Much better.

It really wasn't just the pain and aesthetics that made me decide to clip them. I had/have so many scratches on my neck, chest, shoulders and hands that I was getting a little concerned about the possibility of getting an infection like MRSA or E. coli or something. I know they're clean, but they do step in their own litter (they have a litter box but it's not like they can wash their hands afterwards). I really think preventing as many cuts as I can and avoiding possible infection is kind of important. Even if that means putting through my poor babies through a little irritating clipping.

I have many little scratches. They don't bother me, so clipping nails is not something I worry about.
The more people I meet, the more I like my rats.

You're lucky, Dusty! I'm allergic to rat scratches, actually the urine and debris carried on rat nails, so a tiny scratch for me wells up into a huge red, itchy welt. For some of us it's a necessity.
