    Default Help my Bo Please!!!!!!!!

Bo is my 9 month old male rat. One day last week i walked in my room and the top bars of his cage on the roof were covered in blood and he was out of his cage. His little finger is soo swollen, black and his hand is swelling up now. It is not getting better.
I dont have money for a vet, i just got a job at petsmart and have not started yet and wont for a week. I am afraid he has an infection that might kill him. I just dont know what to do. help me.P1180002.jpgP1180004.jpg

is there an animal charity that you could take him to for treatment? If not try keep the wound as clean as possible. I would recommend saline to clean it, I'm not sure which antisceptics are ok for rats but you should be able to find something if you google it. Good luck

*disclaimer* just my thoughts, absolutely not expert at all!

Ooh, that looks nasty. Maybe ask around the vets see if anyone will let you pay it off in installments? Or ask your parents if there are odd jobs you can do around the house to raise cash?

In the mean time, look into natural remedies for infection and things that boost the immune system, I think ginger might be of help, though I don't know if it will help in that context (just know it helps with sore throats). Really hope you find a way to help him, good luck :-)

    Is he still eating well?

Keep everything extra clean. I don't know how you have his cage set out, but clean up all the old bedding. If you can keep it clean until you start work you may be able to avoid infection.

Just wait until lilspaz shows up, she always seems to know what to do.

Bump for Lilspaz to see - you might need to send her a pm.

I would think a bit of hydrogen peroxide would do no harm. I know we used it for cuts on our cats and dogs, so I would think it should be fine for a rat wound too.

I'd think that some children's ibuprofen would help him out, but lilspaz is definitely the lady to check in with on this.
