    Exclamation Really Lethargic... Please Help

Sorry I havent been on here for a while, I work full time and have also started a degree in criminology and psychosocial studies so like has been manic!

George my boy has been really lethargic for the past 2 days, he just lays there in his hammock, this is so unlike him as he's always bouncing around wanting to come out as soon as i get in from work. I tried to get him out so i could take a proper look at him but he cling on to it for dear life so i thought i'd leave him to rest. I have tried to feel his tummy and nothing seems out of place. I rat phone him every other day so i havent done that again yet as i want him to be comfortable. He has more of the Poly stuff (sorry can remember the name) round his nose and mouth. He seems to be eating ok, i gave him some baby food just to make sure, i'm nit sure if he's drinking as much as normal.. i put a bowl of water down next to him so he could have a drink but he just thought i had put pees in there for him (bless him), so i ave in and put some peas in there too so he's getting some fluid. He seemed to enjoy them... its literally just like he has no energy at all!

I have him booked to see the vet tonight but i'm at work and worried about him... does anyone have any advice for my boy?

My rat did this once but not for two days just one. I guess just wait for what the vet says. If he's drinking and eating fine he should be alright until the vet trip. Also that stuff is porpythrin. The red stuff do he's probably stressed about something. Good luck

It could be anything, really - although if he's eating it's good. Wait and see what the vet says, but don't get too worried - chances are it's a minor thing that can be sorted, like with one of mine when it was a respiratory issue that caused pretty much the same symptoms as you're describing. With meds she was almost back to normal in a day or two.

porpythrin... that's the one, i just couldn't find the word for it and was too panicked to google it haha.

Well thank you guys.. that has put my mind at ease somewhat. I just worry when you hear that rat hide an illness for a while and sometimes when you notice its too late. I'll let you know what the vet says, fingers crossed its a dose of anti biotics and he'll be ok.

Its scary how much I love my lil rats... especially George, i'd be lost without him following me round the house and wagging his tail when getting cuddles (yes i'm sure he thinks he's a dog)!

Is he cold? If he's cold in addition to all the porphyrin, get him on a hot water bottle, or a heating pad on "low". Put towels over it to dim the heat and it'll help him perk up and eat more.

Well really strange, the vet cant find anything wrong with him, he is in perfect health (although getting a little plump), he checked for pretty much everything that he could, ears, nose, heart, lungs, felt for tumours he wasn't dehydrated or anything, he said short of doing x rays or sending blood work off he has check for everything. The vet did say he could prescribe him some antibiotics in case he had a little but but he didn't really want to give him medication for no real reason, but to keep an eye on him and give him a call if i decide he should have antibiotics.. if he is the same on Monday then to bring him back
He perked up a little bit after the vets but still wasn't the same... it almost seems like he's scared to come out so i've been thinking if anything happened to him on Monday night to make that happen, such as being dropped, or stood on or told off but absolutely nothing.

So fingers crossed he just had a bug and its trying to get rid of it

Hey, please let me know whatever happened to George - my female Cupcake is going thru the very same thing!! There's no sign of injury, absolutely no sneezing, coughing, wheezing, etc...just started laying around last night. Wants to be left alone, sleeps in the hammock. There's no porpythrin at all. Did George snap out of it??
