    Default Introducing a new rat

I have a male rat I'm guessing he is about 1yrs old.. My manager got him last November as a store pet ( she only bought him).. I got really attached to him and started learning more and more about rats so I started taking him home and eventually my manager just let me keep him. He pretty much has free run of my whole bedroom and is able to go in and out of his cage as he pleases (so he is rarely locked in his cage). He is also really well behaved and loving. Ive wanting to get him a friend cuz it kills me to leave him alone while I'm at work ive just never been sure how to go about it or if its to late since he is older.. Since he is an older male and has been alone his whole life do u think its a good idea to try to introducing a new rat? And how should I go about it? If he has been alone his whole life I personally wouldn't do it. Rats who aren't used to being with another rat will have the hardest time and personally I wouldn't want to put that stress on him Or another rat.

If you search online you can see how to introduce rats, though since he is older IF you get him another rat I would get a pair of younger boys that way they won't harass him as much.

Just make sure that the new rats IF you get him a friend are kept in quarantine (Your friend might be the best way to do it since it would be a different house and a different air system, but another room works just fine).
