Rat Manor disappointment
so.. I've purchased two Rat manor's from PetCo now.. I've had them for a while.. and for the most part they seem like fantastic cages, however, i've noticed one of the two cages has caused me problems with my rats twice..
The cage is assembled properly, and a couple months back, one of my girls got her toe stuck and freaked out. I was home and got her out quickly, but hearing her squealing practically gave me a heart attack. I wrote it off as a unfortunate chance.. but it happened AGAIN about two weeks ago to another one of my rats. This has never happened with my other cage, and i'm not sure if it's because my boys are lazy and they don't do much or what..
Anyway, has anyone ever had something similar to this happen and if so is there a way to prevent it? I really don't have a lot of money to be throwing down on a new cage right now. :s

I've never had this issue. My guys actually prefer the wire over if I have fleece on it.
Could their nails be too long? I'm actually know a bit nervous cause my little guy's nails are getting very long (I need to trim them and get them some bricks to walk on) and now I"m worry they're going to get their toes stuck.
Maybe the shelf wire (or ramp) got broken and so there is a bigger gap then usual. Anything unusual about the cage?
So sorry about your girls. I would get some fleece to line the shelves with, and get some bricks and tiles so they have somewhere cool to lay (Most rats like to lay on the wire because its cooler). I have a picture when my Rat Manor had fleece liners (I don't use them at the moment anymore) if you want an example.

Actually, it's not the bottom/flat shelves that seem to be the problem, but rather the corners where the sides meet and the hooks are 'woven' together. Not exactly at the hooks, but like the space between them. It's a little difficult to explain.

wait the part between the cage wall and the level area Or the wire grids on the levels that meet together?
If it's the space between the cage and level with fleece covers you can make it so that it is covered/filled in
If it's the wire area then fleece liners will work too (Forgot to mention that tile will work But you need to wipe it down daily or twice a day)
I'm still a bit confused (maybe a picture?). Once again, my best suggestion would be to make some fleece liners Or maybe get another cage? If it's just that one cage maybe you can see if you can trade it in since it's hurting your rats, or maybe sell it and buy another one (But give a warning?). Just some suggestions.

I also have the Rat Manor and I haven't had any issues with it. I would agree with LighteningWolf about the fleece liners though. If you could post a picture, maybe it would be easier to help (sometimes it's just hard to envision things like this).
