I'm about to get 2 boys from the same litter soon, so I've gotten the cage. The rat cage calculator says the cage can fit 3 rats if the space is used right. I was wondering, keeping in mind boys get big when they're older, if I could fit another male rat in the same cage, comfortably? One of his brothers has not been reserved and we're thinking about taking him in maybe.

I have always kind of taken the cage calculator to be a minimum amount of space required. This is just a personal opinon - but when it says it can hold three rats comfortably, it means that three is the MAXIMUM, and just because you can squeeze that many in, doesn't mean that you should.

As an example:

Just because you can legally fit five people into my little Hyundai Accent, it doesn't mean that it would be a comfortable ride.

I would wait to get a third until you have a cage big enough for four or five.

Just a personal opinion - take it or leave it.

I agree. My rats are a lot happier when they have more space!

You also need to consider how the space is used though (hammocks, ledges, igloos and so on) all that will help with how many rats you can put into a cage.

I know i've been storing all of my things in one bedroom for a long time. I, quite frankly, can't wait to move into my new appartment where I will have two floors!!!
