so Maggie was bitten on her paw the other day, didnt look like anything too serious though. i noticed a little bit of swelling in one' finger'. looks sore, but she isnt limping or showing any pain with it.

any concerns? or does swelling usually go down on its own

swelling will go down on its own but it will be sore in the meantime. you could try some cold compresses to help the swelling ease sooner. the only thing i would be concerned about is if the wound gets infected. watch it, if it gets a angry red or she starts favoring it then you'll want to start her on some anti-biotics. i would think ones aimed at a bacterial infection would work best. the area may also abcess but i'm no expert on that as i've never had to actually have to deal with that myself yet. *knocks on wood* i believe stephanie has dealt with many times though so you could ask her about it.

I wouldn't reccommend using peroxide or anything else because if it is infected chances are she'll lick it to try and clean it, if she licks her paw after you've put peroxide, or many other antibacterial liquids on it that are intended for humans... and not intended for consumption at all... she may become even more sick, or even die... go see a vet it does sound like its infected.. and infection can spread throughout the body leading ultimately to a nasty death... :s

If you can put something cold on it, it might help. It looks like a sprained toe to me, but I'm no vet.

A vet visit never hurts, though... :)
