I'm beginning to wonder if I have misjudged one of rats ages because of her size, (maybe she is just small?) It seems like her fur is becoming a different texture already, still soft, but a lil shorter and a lil more course. At what age do rats start to loose their "baby fuzz?" Her sister is still quite soft and fluffy ^ ^. Just wondering.

Some rats always have their soft hair. Blues for instance, remain almost forever fluffy, at least the females.

The males, even the blues, generally get more wirey hair as they older, but judging rat's age by coat type is not exact due to all the different rat types maturing at different rates.

Males tend to be wirey more often than females, due to hormones. Neutering often results in softer fur, I hear. I have two soft boys out of six, though. :)
