advice for new rat owner?

ive had my rat templeton for maybe about a week or so now i love him so much and we are bonding so well. ive been looking to get a friend for him but been unsuccessful until recently. i have two friends who both owned two rats but one of their two passed away in both situations. they have both reached out to me seeing that i now have a rat and are asking to rehome them. i would love to take them both in but i am just worried how they will get along with templeton. they are both adults and templeton is just a baby and seems very attached to me and frankly i am also very attached to him. just a little anxious to introduce new ratties. any advice?

Introductions are just a part of being a rat owner. I do new introductions once every year or two. I understand being nervous about it but it's a necessity to keep our rats from being alone.

It would be great for you to take on your friends' solo rats but your under no obligation to do so. If you'd feel more comfortable getting a pair of young rats to introduce to Templeton, that's okay. You can tell your friends that you don't feel confident enough to do introductions with adults.

Either way, you need to find a pair of rats asap to introduce to Templeton. Rats, especially young rats, shouldn't be alone for extended periods of time.

yeah i am trying to get him buddies asap,, i think im going to take both in because one of them is pretty old and my friend doesnt want him to spend his last month/months alone so if i take both in i can let the old boy pass with friends there with him and then templeton will still have a friend afterward. would that be a good idea? or would the passing of the old boy be bad for templeton? i dont want him to have to mourn

I think taking your friends' boys in would be a wonderful thing for everyone involved.
