I have been offered a 4 month old female. my girls seem very healthy and I want them to stay that way. What UK diseases could this new rat carry that might not be obvious? How should I check?

Check by doing the usual three week quarantine in a separate airspace. A lot of owners will treat for mites whether or not they show any signs.

If you're still worried after not noticing anything within that three week period you could have her taken to the vets for a check-up just to make sure.

What Wench said - quarantine is the key. I haven't heard of any UK diseases, per se - none that are different to what have been posted here, anyway.
