I have 3 girls, one is over a year old, and 2 are younger that I got about 6 months ago. The oldest girl is very well behaved and so is the other younger one, but the other baby is very odd. She acts like shes fighting nothing, she doesnt sleep with the other rats often, and she doesnt play with them, is very aggressive, has drawn blood on my other girls ears and tails so now she needs to be separated, she doesnt let people touch her, she destroys everything, and she bites people. Shes cost me about $120 in cage repair alone, and I cant bond with her. She also only had one eye when i got her from the breeder (ive gotten all my rats from the same breeder for a while and never had an issue) which i didnt think would be a problem but she is very skittish. I dont know what to do and im considering giving her up to someone else just because I cant afford all these repairs and cant stand to see her hurting her cage mates over and over.

Hi and welcome, and so sorry it's under such dire circumstances. I don't have any advice, but I understand your frustration. It's hard to know why she is acting the way she does, and being so unsociable. I hope someone else here can help you understand what is going on.

Oof... I'm so sorry for your troubles. I can't say a **** of a lot except that some people, dogs and rats are wired wrong; filled with pain and given to inflicting pain on others. If your rat is suffering there is no wrong in ending her suffering. You're obviously a caring person, and I commend you for doing your best with this poor little soul. If you have a good vet consult with her. All of us at the Forum support you. Please keep me posted. All the best to you.

My rat is now doing much better :) Ive learned that she actually has autism which I didnt even know rats could have. I changed her living situation to suit her. A smaller cage so she isnt as stressed and doesnt destroy everything (it still meets the minimum size tho), shes separated from the other girls, she gets extra free roam time separate from the girls aswell. She doesnt really chew on anything anymore but she loves digging and her favorite game is chasing a little strip of newpaper i wave around. She still doesnt like being held or pet but if i sit on the floor she will sit on my lap and sometimes if im lucking she will even give me little kisses and let me give her skritches behind her ears. :)
