I undertsand that a female rat who has completely turned aggressive after birth is rare. I had Cinderella since she was born and she was always the bullie to the rest, but never to me. About one day before birth I put my hand in the cage and she lunged and nailed me. When I tried to pick up the others she lunged at them and me. So I some how got her to another cage and she tried to lunge at me through the cage. I ended up getting nailed twice, OUCH!
I used metal tongs to get her food dish and she nailed it as well. So I ended up putting down her and the babies.

Some people said it could have been a health problem, maybe tumor or neurological?? Any thought or suggestions? She was a danger to my other rats and me. Did I do the right thing or for future is there something else I should be aware of?

Appreciate any experience or knowledge I can get

Thank you
Jackie

You did the right thing in my opinion. Aggresiveness like that puts you and your other rats at risk of getting hurt.It might have been some kind of hormonal thing due to her pregnancy,or something more serious. I've had to deal with the same thing in other types of animals. Usually in cases like that, the animal is in pain anyway if it makes you feel better.

Wow thank you so much. I often still wonder if what I did was right. I wonder if she would have changed after the babies got weaned, but then again she was a bully to the rest. Some say it could have been a tumor or other issue.
I do miss her, she was totally cute!!
