I have two adult hairless rats, one young hairless, and one young regular rat. The young ones were the offspring of my female hairless. I am not a breeder nor did I plan it. I’ve had the adults since they were about 6 weeks of age and they’ve always been sneezing.

I’ve changed their bedding time and time again and even got rid of things that can give off strong smells. I currently have them on a fleece like fabric that I wash once a week as I get bad allergies myself.

On average I’d say they sneeze once every two minutes? They don’t sneeze when sleeping. I do have them in a room with my tortoise who is in a tank because she is only 4 inches long. I can’t have them any where else as they smell like, well, rats. I was born with a weak sense of smell so I don’t mind but my family does.

They eat and drink well maybe too well as they will even eat when half asleep. I have never seen any indication that they may be in pain and their eyes are all clear and healthy.

The only thing that could be concerning is that they have what looks like a runny nose? It’s not dripping it’s just wet around the nostrils. They don’t lick it or even rub their noses. Nothing about them really concerns me except the consistent sneezing.

It may be that the washing powder you use irritates their system?

I have just washed mine with the normal amount of washing powder/liquid as I did it once and rats haven’t seemed to care! I haven’t noticed any issues with that but some rats will get irritated or have problems with specific washing powders etc. On a side note,if I don’t notice any issues is what I’m doing ok?
