Baby rescued. Is it male or female?

i cannot tell from the pics, the first ones are just too blurry & the last Im not seeing anything. Better pics would help alot Yeah I know not super easy. I'd guess a girl but I can't say 100%. Holding them like u did in the first pic, I think is the best way to see. Maybe someone else can see the pics better then me.

you can sex a rat from day one & it is always the same way to tell. Looking at their genital region, the male's genitals will be farther apart from the anus then the female. This is a good site to compare it to. http://mainelyratrescue.org/rattieblog2/?p=42
Only females have nipples but sometimes they are like very hard to see. If the baby is over 4 weeks he should be showing some nice testicles.

Those are the best pics I can take. Judging by measurement hes around 17-19 days old.
Ive been trying to compare to other pics on sexing rats, do females have a protrusion that looks like a baby penis? Ive wet his belly looking for nipples but I didnt find anything. Other sites make it seem like the nipples should be really obvious especially at this age but im not finding any dots or bumps on him. I also see two barely (I mean barely) darkish spots where the testicles should be.

I guess to really answer it, at 17-19 days old, are the testicles visible completely?

The site you linked me and an AFRMA kind of contradict eachother in what the rats should look like at a certain age.

Nipples can be very hard to see on dark colored rats. Yes, females do have "a protrusion that looks like a baby penis." That is their urethra. Directly below that would be the vagina. If you see a hole below the protrusion, you have a female on your hands.

I'm learning towards saying this one's female, but it is hard to tell by these pictures. Rats can be very good at hiding their testicles when stressed, such as when being held for pictures. Watch him/her when s/he's completely relaxed and then see if any testicles pop out.

The pictures are a little blurry, but if I had to guess based on the pictures I'd go with female. Sometimes it is possible to also feel the nipples, especially if their hair is not as dense yet.

Actually looking under (what I thought was a penis) looks like a small red slit which im assuming is a vagina.
Sadly I needed a male cause my current boys brother passed away. This little baby is already getting along with them. They play together and sleep together but I dont want rat babies.

Is it possible to spay the female and keep her with the male? Or should I take her back and keep looking? There are no rat breeders around my area anymore sadly.

You can definitely either get her spayed or the males neutered.

If your male rat is still young and healthy, it may be easier to neuter him than to spay the female. Spaying is generally a more invasive surgery and is also more expensive than neutering. For now, remove the female since although female rats can get pregnant very early on, it's very dangerous for them.

Looks like a little girl! But if it is a boy, you should start seeing very obvious testicles very soon. But I would NOT put her in with your boys until after she's spayed. Girls can get pregnant very very young, even at around 4-5 weeks of age only in some cases.

If you get her spayed, that would be great. Spaying a girl at a young age greatly reduces the chances she will get mammary or pituitary tumors! It would be highly beneficial for her. Plus I love having a mixed gender rat cage. I would definitely spay my future girls to be with boys again (but my boys are also neutered). Boys and girls act very different together than boys and boys or girls and girls. It's nice seeing the different relationships they form.

If you have them together u need to separate them asap and do not let them play together either. It would not be good for her to get pregnant so young and they can breed in an instant!
