WOW i was thinking the store barnes and noble was now selling rat cages oi through me off completely, but that is an awesome cage i which i could build something like that for my ratties but i tend to rearrange a lot so i need a cage i can take apart and put back together.

 

Awww that looks so cute and cozy! I love the idea of that kids' game with the blocks! My only suggestion would be to give them some more chew toys. I worry about them trying to chew out of the cage!

I highly suggest painting it with a non-toxic, waterproof child-resistant paint. If you leave it just plain wood, then you'll find in a few short months that the smell of the urine being soaked in is intolerable. Plus very unhygenic and bad for your ratties.

Also, if you can get some more ventilation holes in the sides, that would be good.

For hanging hammocks, you could drill some hooks right into the wood!

i definitely agree with captainflow on taking all your things out for a few days and painting the whole thing with several coats of non-toxic paint, and possibly going over that with a few coats of clear non-toxic lacquer. urine will soak thru that wood like water to a sponge, and it will REEK in no time at all, and all your hard work will go to waste. also, you can make it any color you want! make it a living work of art! also make sure that it is thoroughly dry and ventilated before you put rats back in.
