I'm sure there is a post somewhere, but....

What is the best food for rats? I'm currently feeding something like vita viddles....i don't remember what it's called. I'm sure it's not the best thing for them, though. It looks more like hamster food to me.

I need a food that's not too expensive, though, and would be redily available at a local petstore. We have a petco and a petsmart, but I rarely go there. I mostly stick to a locally owned store nearby.

I make Suebee's mix, found here:

I wouldn't say it's very expensive. I just have a large airtight container and make a large batch and it lasts for months. Probably cheaper than what I used to feed them, when you got down to it. Definitely better for them.

If it must come from a pet store, I'm not particularly sure what the best branded food is for them. Does your small pet store happen to have a specific rat mix that they make? If so, ask what's in it and let us know.

I use Suebee's (a homemade mix) and/or Harlan Teklad lab blocks (available online only).

I believe the best in store food was supposed to be Mazuri? :?
