Hey,

I am considering boys over girls as i have heard they are more laid back and not as scatty as girls, however i have also heard that boys are bigger than girls?

How much bigger are boys and how big are the average rat ?

I've dude rats and lady rats, and I will back up that the boys can get much bigger than than the girls. My ladies have never reached the size of my original dudes, not even much.

I would estimate that a male rat can be about 1/3 larger than a female rat, but that's just an estimate. I'm not sure what the average rat size is, I'm sure someone else will be able to fill in that blank.

My boys are double the weight of my females! They are just bulky all the way around.

from head to but my biggest male is about 8 inches then his tail is probably another six inches more

They're much heavier, not just longer They have a much more hunched look to their backs, too.

I think it depends on the rat, honestly. Two of my girls are a pound and a half!

Thankyoo for the advice, I needed to know because i have a 36 by 12 inch cage and i have been told it is big enough for 2 rats as long as they get time out of it and plenty of exercise !!

But then i read that boys are generally larger
