Hi all!
I have some lovely lilac scented candles that I haven't burned since I've had my ratties, because I'm not sure if the scent will bother them (especially considering their sensitive respitory tracts)! It is a fairly small room, so I'm a bit concerned. I thought I'd just check on here to make sure my candles aren't collecting dust for no reason ;) Is it safe or should I keep refraining? Thanks all!

No. They have very delicate respiratory systems. It's best to burn candles in a room that they aren't in.

I burn them in the same room and noticed no problems at all (over about 20 years of rat owning). If I really thought it would harm them I would not burn them for my own health, as we have essentially the same mammalian respiratory system. I do stick to candles made from natural oils which me and the rats could eat or powder and snort if we wanted to and come to no harm.
