sometimes my rats smell, and i was wondering if it would be okay if i got a diffuser for them? i’m not sure what scent, but apparently lavender/thyme is good. are these okay for my boys?
as far as we know, they have no health issues. we’ve had them since about april and they’ve been completely fine.
so is it okay? i know rats have respiratory issues so i want to be certain.
thanks :D

No, oil diffusers are not good for rats' respiratory symptoms. If they smell, try changing their fleece items out more often and/or emptying their litter boxes more often, if they have them. My male rats only have a noticeable odor when they have soiled fleece/litter boxes and it's time to change them. Find the source of the odor (it's usually pee that's soaked into something).

I would spot clean every day and use a 50/50 vinegar and water solution. It smells like pickles for 5 minutes and the vinegar neutralizes the ammonia from the urine. I change my fleece twice a week and the litter box once. I will replace particularly soiled fleece pieces as I go along, if needed.
