Hello, I’m new here and I’m looking for a small soft animal. I saw that Rex rats tend to lose their hair as they age, and was wondering if the same happens to Velveteens? I’d rather have a rat that keeps all of its soft fur throughout its life.

A well-bred rex shouldn't lose hair, nor should a velveteen. If you plan on getting rats, you must get at least two, so keep that in mind.

You (or someone else) might be confusing a Rex with a Double Rex! Rex rats shouldn't lose hair (as Enne pointed out), but a Double Rex will. From my understanding, Double Rexes have fairly brittle fur and it falls out pretty easy because of that, but a normal Rex won't have that problem (unless genetics are poor, perhaps).
