My poor guy is dying. His cagemate died this summer in an accident. That is when I got this guy, he would not accept new cagemates. He is 2 1/2 approximately. My vet said he may have to be a solo rat and get lots of attention from me. We spent a lot of time together every day. He is dying now. My question is this; do rats usually go off to die alone or should I be with him? Please, someone help!

I don't know if they are the same, but when my guinea pig died, he seemed comforted by my company. I had also spent a lot of time with him and had a really strong bond.

Thank you. We spent a lot of time together last night. Then he pushed my hand aside and pulled the shirt he has over his bed and tucked himself in all the way around like a tent closed up. I called his name this morning and he squeaked, then poked his head out. He wanted out of the cage, so now he is tucked in his favorite comforter. I will continue to offer his favorite food, he ate a piece of apple last night, and be around.
