so i've had mozart for like a week and a half now, and i'm dying to put them together. i know i shouldn't cuz they need a 2-3 week quarantine, but mozart has not sneezed once since i got her. she has developed some softer stools in the last couple days, but i think it might be because of the fresh fruits and veggies that she is getting now, where she got none at the pet store she was at. i'm going to try the pepto bismol someone else mentioned a few boards back, and we'll see.

this was really just an add post about how cute my rats are and how much i want them to frolick lovingly together. i also figure that they're not in a separate airspace and my roommates may have breached the no-contact quarantine already anyway. :p

I kinda know what you mean. I'm about get my two male rats really soon and when I get them I know I have to quarantine them for 2-3 weeks but I know I'll want to put them in their new big cage I'm getting them!

I guess I'll have to be good and quarantine them for the right amount of time...it'll be hard though! :)

Your rats are very cute....until a few weeks ago i didn't even know there were hairless rats. Where did you get yours? Where did you get Mozart...she reminds me of one of my females....unnamed ...will be soon! lol

Are they diff. ages? How old are they? Does an age diff. matter when introducing new ones...or does it have something to do with size?

I think the adoption fell through with the 2 males i was interested in. I still will be getting one soon....but it will only be 1...(Tear) lol

I want to post some pics sometime...you got any pics to share...The more the better! I love cute rattie pics! :D

Be careful with the pepto bismol. If his stools are loose from new fruits and veggies, try and just cut back a bit and give his body time to adjust rather then trying to medicate. :)

Because it contains subsalicylate, it's not recommended for children under 12 any more, so I wouldn't give it to tiny rats any way.

haha, i had to double-check where in the **** pepto-bismol came from and then i reread my first post. i ended up not giving her any anyway since by the next morning her stools had hardened up again. it might have been something i had fed her fresh since she didn't get any at the petstore i got her. i did get the recommendation from someone here on the ratforum though, but i think they make pepto bismol for kids so i might look into that instead.

i got picasso from petsmart and mozart from a pet city or other mall petstore (it's relatively nice compared to the pedigree petshop at this other mall i go to, etc). picasso had some slight sneezing when i got her but mozart, for all that i thought her inital conditions were worse, was, and has been, totally healthy thus far. i got picasso at about 3 months of age in feb and mozart at about 2 months in april, i think. so they're still pretty little girls, i loves them. picasso is much balder now, but you can still tell she's a dark-colored berkshire. mozart has an underbelly just barely lighter than her topside so i consider her a berk too, although i had initially thought her to be self.

younger animals, and females, seem to be easier to introduce to eachother. mozart was bitten on the face by picasso once the first time they were introduced, but it was very shallow, and although very close to her eye, it healed up fine in only a couple days. with any intro, kinks will need to be worked out in personalities. older rats may take longer as they are used to having things their own way, etc. i don't think size really makes a difference, but if it makes you feel better, you can get 2 that are similar. :D
