I've searched the web looking for anything like this, but found nothing so far.

One of our two rats has grown a perfect toenail right on the tip of his tail.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this?

Do you think this is something we should be concerned about??

Crikey! Thanks for that - at least if there's another rat out there like it, it can't be that odd. You can imagine how surprised i was today to see it there :)

yup, my rat has this toenail on the end of his tail. It has been there for a while now, so I figure it must be okay.

Is it like a hard clearish tip to the end of the tail? Quite a few of mine have that; I've never found out exactly what is is but I've always assumed its some form of bony cartledge or something

My rats each have one! I thought they were gnawing at their tails! Okay, I'm good now lol. I was really scared they had some flesh eating disease or something.

i don't think it's an actual toenail, but the scales on their tail grow from butt to tip, so at the tip they come together, all old and crusty and look like a toenail. if you try to pull it off, it apparently hurts, btw. :( (how was i supposed to know?)
