Ferret treats?

1391 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  erikablanchettexo
I accidentally ordered ferret treat "Yogies!" Online and didn't realize until my order had shipped. I'm wondering if I can give them to my rats anyhow if I cut them maybe into 4's?

Crude protein (min) - 1.5%
Crude fat (min) - 21.0% (this is what I'm concerned about)
Crude fiber (min) - 0.5%
Moisture (max) - 3.0%

Well I looked up "Yogies!" treats for rats and found this. They have the same Guaranteed Analysis as the kind for ferrets and they use the same kind of ingredients so it doesn't matter. I'd still limit the amount given because they don't seem like the healthiest thing for them.
Thank you! I'll cut them into 4's :)
They are not suitable for ferrets at all. Ferrets are obligate Carnivores. They should not be eating that stuff. Typical marketing for the Human not the animal.

But I am sure they are fine for rats (in moderation)
Some time back I read the ingredients in yogi treats.... I actually don't recall exactly what turned me off, but I remember thinking to myself my rats would be about as well off with Hershey's kisses or about any other human junk food.

But yes, I suppose they are fine in moderation.

Oxbow makes some healthy strawberry treats and I believe there's something called veggie treats that seem reasonably healthy, both of which my rats will occasionally eat... But if you really want to treat your rats with something they love try fortune cookies... Same moderation rule applies.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to write back :). They don't really get treats all that often but when I do give them a treat, they only get like 1/4 of the treat itself.

I'll have to try that! Thanks :)
