So my parents are pretty fixed on letting me get 2 female rats for Christmas. Im starting to get really prepared, so since when i get them im pretty sure they will be young, im pretty sure im going to feed them dog food.
So how much % protien, and other requirments should be in the dog food?

Thanks, Austin :D

You cannot feed them just dog food, it is not nutritionally adequate. None of the dog foods actually have protein percentages that are correct for rats (they are usually a little high) but you just have to get as close as you can. The dog food is only acceptable when as part of a mix like Suebee's mix.

Here is my write up and information on Suebee's mix including a list of the best dog foods to use with it: http://www.petinfopackets.com/rats/ratfeeding.html#homemade

Since the protein is actually higher than what's really needed for adult rats it works well for young rats, yes.
