So Harlan Teklad has been recommended but I can't get it. It's no where around me. The closest distributor is in MA, and it will cost me 20$ to ship one bag! As much as I'd really like my ratties to have the best i'm not sure this is very practical. Can anyone please recommend the next best food that i might be able to get a hold of in a pet store perhaps??? I'd really love to hear suggestions. Thanks a bunch!

don't feel bad, i can't get harlan teklad either. with shipping it doubles the price of it.....just can't afford that. i have been using mazuri rodent diet, but have found it isn't the best....so im looking into other choices. i may start using a lite dog food with fresh fruits and veggies instead.....

Look into places like Kim's Ark rat rescue, the Rat Shop, and the Crafty Rat. They sell in smaller bags and it may be cheaper for you.

Else, perhaps look into something like Suebee's (Dog Food + Grain Mix and veggies) or Mazuri.

I brought 15 lbs of Harlan 2018 from Kim's ark. It cost $23.95. 15 lbs will last you 7 months with two rats, perhaps longer so you would need to refrirate it. If not, you could buy less but the shipping is still $8.95 for a flat rate up to 15lb bag. At least for me anyway. You just need to e-mail her and ask what shipping will be on the size you want and what you want and she will answer.

The food itself is $1/pd. It's a great price especially considering how a 2 lb bag at a pet store is $5 O_O

But Mazuri is fine to use and it's at PetSmart. It's a little high in protein but it's the best out of what you can find around.
