This may be a total noob question, so don't laugh. Three days ago I adopted an adult male, over a year old. His fur is much rougher to touch. While girls are soft like chinchillas, this boy's hair is more coarse, like a dog's fur. Is this a difference between sexes? Or is it age related?

It's a difference between sexes, boys fur is more coarse than girls. I have one little girl and she feels so snuggly and soft compared to her adoptive brothers! If you get a male neutered his hair gets softer as well :)

Thanks for reply! I don't mind his thick fur at all, I'm only curious. I am used to dogs so it is no issue. He is my first rat boy, and it was a small surprise after handling girls for over 6 months. :)
