Ok.. every single summer we always end up with a bunch of flies in our house. Last night, or this morning since it was like 1 am... I put out the light in my room and had the tv on. Alla sudden there were about 8 darn flies on the tv screen, and then they kept buzzing me, and I would shoo them and they would actually charge AT me. I went and tore apart the cabinet, looking for something to get rid of them, all I came up with was glass cleaner.

Well, there I was, at 2am chasing a bunch of flies around my room trying to knock them down and kill them Away from my animals.. with glass cleaner.
Needless to say it took Forever.

I have used bug killer VERY carefully in the past and sometimes even evacuated my animals from my room to wage war.
BUT I really would like to try and avoid it at all costs.

I hate fly swatters, my dad is fond of them and I can only remember all the white walls with smears and smudges everywhere, plus then you got a mess on your hands and I am absolutely creeped out by dead bugs or pieces of them. Dont ask me why I'm that way..my father even kills moths and stuff outta mid air by clapping his hands.

Fly tape... grusome and nasty and creepy... I dont like dead bugs, so imagine a concentration of a billion of em in one spot... that also could get stuck to me.. and ya that has happened a few times *shudder*.

Back to my question...
Anyone know of any sort of critter friendly bug killer or know something that is safe or safer than bug killer but just as effective?
Also, does anyone know of anything around the house one could mix or use that will get the job done?

Many things crossed my mind at 2am, like maybe my dog's antibiotic spray or some sorta amonia or citrus concoction.

erm I was going to suggest fly paper but it loks like you dont want to go down that route - how about a glass of water with honey to attract them but then they get stuck? - although if you dont like looking at dead bugs thats prob not a good option... erm cleaner spray - one thats not an aerosol (sp?)....

ok....this will sound really weird but here goes....

I don't have a suggestion for when flies get in but I know a method of keeping flies out for the most part.

You'll need: some platic bags, tin foil/ pennies/or both, tap water, some string.

You put the tinfoil or pennies (I used both) in the plastic bag and fill it with tap water. Then you tie it by every door. It takes a few hours to start working but I noticed that there were hardly any flies in my house since I hung them up. I even wanted to prove it worked by hanging it by 2 of my doors and not by 1 of them. If you open the 2 doors with the bags by them very rarely does a fly come in. As for the other door, everytime I open it a bunch of flies come flying in. I found it on the internet and just thought I'd try it. Hopefully you don't mind bags hanging on the outside of your house....lol.

Oh and I just thought of somehting if you don't like the big yellow fly strips hanging in your house. I forgot where I got them but there are clear fly strip things that attach to your window. You just take them down when they get full. They are better then the regular fly strips at least.

Hope this helps!

I think our main problem is the air conditioners lol. My mom prolly won't go for the bag thing. Might go with fly tape though as long as my fiance will deal w it. lol.

I had a rather creepy fly in the rat room yesterday. Unfortunately it landed on the cage, and Moo got it. I don't know how, but she just reached out and snagged it. Then she ate it. o.0 I was less then pleased.
