Hansel was my previously very meek rat. While he is still shy he now is exploring, which I am stoked about. One odd result in his trust development is he will groom us intensely. Not like a powergroom, but he will just groom you for a very long time. Or when exploring he will test lick everything. Do I just have a groomer?

Before my shy rat finally accepted being picked up, she would lick my hand. I could pick up the other two rats just fine, but she got really nervous about being picked up. But she still showed loving by grabbing my finger and licking it.

Now she sometimes sits on my shoulder and grooms my ears. Crazy rat.

Oooh I just love that. That's when you know they are totally comfortable with you. They'll sit in your arms and give themselves a good washing. then climb up and clean your ear and cheek. Such a sweet tickly feeling.
