My rat, Emil, is ruby-eyed, and he's constantly swinging his head side to side. I believe it's because of his poor vision, but i've been told by several persons that have rats where i live, that's most probably a sign of agression.

Emil is constantly swinging his head, also in non-threatening situations.

What do you think? I didn't even knew that rats bob their heads when they're acting agressive!

yes, i have heard they swing thier head from side to side to try and see lol, they also like to tilt thier head when at a high place to try and see everything.

Head-bobbing is a sign of poor vision or health problems, not a sign of aggression.

i would say that signs of aggression are more like, stiff movement, fluffed up fur, hissing sounds, etc.

My new girl does that, so did my old mouse and neither are aggressive.

Head bobbing is a sign of aggression...

... in birds. Not in rats. Heheh. As everyone else has already said... it's a vision thing and is normally more pronounced in those with pink eyes.
