Hi all. My name is Jess. I have two rats, Kirk and
Reznor. My estimate is that they are about a month old. They are so cute. Yesterday, for the first time, I figured out what they were doing. All this time I tjhought they were biting me. Actually they were tryig to groom me. They started with test bites, then started nibbling and now they just lick me. I am pleased with this development. I hope I meet all sorts of neat rat people here. These aren't my first rats, but they will not be my last. I have had three previous rats, although I was not quite so well armed with rat knowledge as I am now. Hope to hear from you all real soon.

Hi and welcome! Your very lucky your rats are grooming you so quickly! Have you heard them chitter and boggle their eyes out yet? This may be weird, but that means the rat is "purring", or enjoying your company. Thats just another weird thing that rat babies do to tell you they love you.

Hmmm I'm always scared that they're going to bite me so I pull my hand away... I see now that maybe that's what my new boys are doing That makes me smile!

Hello, glad you are enjoying your newbies. Its always exciting getting to know new ones. One of my daughters rats called Barley he is a rotter when he wants to check you out... he does the usual grooming thing then he'll shove his nose right up your nostril or in your ear and his worst is grabbing your lips with his sharp claws and trying to put his head your mouth. Malcolm loves licking peoples noses and in the past we have had eyebrow nippers and hair pullers as well. Anyone had ratties that do that ?
