I live in a remote area without internet access, so forgive me if I take several days to respond. A few days ago I bought a male/female pair of albino rats named Dusky and Noona. They're albino pet store rats; there are no breeders I could find within 1000 or so miles and only albinos are legal here. The girl who sold them to me suggested I get on the internet for help, so here I am. :D I'll try to get some photos of them but only Dusky tolerates handling. Noona is very fearful and bitey.

Well first of all I think its fair to assume that your intentions are to breed since you've mentioned that there aren't any breeders within 1000 miles of you... If these are in fact your intentions and what you've stated is the truth, I can find little harm done in starting a breeding program IF and only if, you can find homes for your pets as you've mentioned that you live in a remote area... Although I don't think it was wise for you to start off by getting a male and a female, you should have become acquainted with rats through a same sex pair first... then as you gradually learned more and more about them try breeding. Anyway, Welcome, and good luck whatever your choice is...

No, my original intention was much different. Last month I recieved a python as a gift from my brother, who suggested I breed rats because they're expensive. Now that I have my rats I'm too attached to them and I want them as pets only. So now I have a problem and I'm hoping for help with it. If the first litter goes okay I might continue... right now I'm thinking more along the lines of neutering.

please neuter him! breeding petstore rats is never a good idea especially when you have no idea what you are doing! or you can spay the girl which has many more health benefits. please though read through these forums and try and learn as much as possible before you have 14 babies or so on your hands.
