Don't worry about the science project, we just observed her in school, no worries! No testing or anything at all, and she was absolutely forbidden from touching except by me. She got out an hour a day, before school and during science class she sat on my shoulder, and she still got a clean cage...etc. School is over and she's living with us. She's very happy, adjusted, and gets out at least 5 hours every few days. In between she's out an hour a day.
As for pairs, we can't really have two right now, but my stepbrother is getting a rat for his birthday, and we're hoping to get them to live together. He wants a buck, but since Splint is a girl thats not do-able, so we might have to get him neutered.
One last note, I'm so happy I got a rat. Everyday it's hard to think of what life would be life without Splinter!
