I adopted a rat a few days before Christmas (for my kids). We named her Alice I've had rats before but it's been a very long time ago. I'm not sure how old she was when we got her…. but maybe about 6 months. She settled in and all was good. We had had her for a few weeks when I decided that she needed a friend (in the past I have always had more than one rat). My daughter wanted an albino... we had a little bit of a hard time finding one but we finally got one from a pet store that sells them as feeder rats and they don't handle them. I decided since they hadn't been handled that I'd get a very young one. I'm not sure how old she was exactly but if I had to guess I'd say 2.5 months or so. We named her Yuki. We introduced them in a neutral environment so that the older rat wouldn't get territorial. They were fine together… no aggression or anything... so after about an hour of them being together hanging out we put them in the cage. As soon as the little one went into Alice's house (there were 3 "houses" in the cage and 2 of them were brand new) Alice attacked Yuki and drew blood…. I had to go out and buy a whole other set-up for Yuki. Now I'm not sure what to do… Will they every be able to get along or be in the same cage? They've been completely separated since the incident. Any suggestions?

I hope it's ok to post this here… I need to post in the "Hello" section before it will let me post in another area.

Alice :)
