hey, everyone. my name's amanda, i'm 20 and i live in wisconsin. i'm a student of psychology and theatre, and right now there are four rats in my family.
my very, very sweet old rat, honey (mink hooded), passed away at the decent old age of a little over two years, just last thursday. her two "sisters" (not biologically) are squirrel (cinnamon berkshire) and skunk (black hooded), who i adopted last summer from petco after someone "returned" the adult rats because squirrel was a biter. indeed, miss squirrel is quite a beast, and even after a year she's hard to handle- but we forgive her. in spite of my best efforts, she still doesn't really appreciate human handling, but she does still have other rats to cuddle with, so she's not lonely. she's getting rather old now- i have no idea how old, really, since she was full-grown when she came to me. and skunk, on the other hand, loves people and is extremely energetic. when i got her from petco, she was small, with a short nose and a docked tail- there was no explanation as to why half her tail was missing, but she seems to get along okay without it.
the other two are babies, olive (masked? capped? grayish, but it looks like she's going to develop a line down her back. we'll see.) and matilda (black hooded), who i got from a friend who sort of "accidentally" became a rat breeder recently. they're just two months old, and so tiny and soft and inquisitive. i can't wait to see how their little personalities develop.
we have other pets, too, around here- my family has three dogs and dozens of fish, a leopard gecko, and a dwarf hamster, and i have a turtle and a betta. yes, i still live at home- how could i move away from such a lovely zoo?
sorry- this has been a rather long introduction.
