My ratties started itching a bit a week ago after I used some bedding after forgetting to freeze it,

but no signs of creepies and no damage to skin etc, one went in for an abscess removal and now has scabs. I've treated with ivermectin as I couldn't get a vet appointment for a week (I will ask about revolution after the ivermectin). I'm cleaning everything but left some tape out and have come back to this. They look like creepies, how screwed am I ?

(Also any tips on removing are greatly appreciated)

Hello! My rat Blizzard also got some type of lice/mites on her a little more than a month ago, she was often itching, had scabs and became more nervous and timid. I treated her with Ivermectin for three weeks, fully cleaned out the cage and gave another half dose the fourth week (to be certain all the bugs were dying). Now she is back to her normal self, and has only a few scabs which didn't heal yet. I never really saw the bugs, I assume they come out at night, sorry I can't help you identify the ones on the tape.

Hope this is will be helpful in case you decide to treat your rats with ivermectin!
Hi there, can you share more details about the ivermectin you bought, aka the strength of it, and where you got it? Here in Canada, revolution is ridiculously controlled, and exotic pet appointments are hard to get, and prohibitively expensive. However, I can get a tube of ivermecting meant for horses for $10 at any peavy mart. I'm trying to find details on how to safely adminster it, and I knwo that if you give too much it's really terrible. So.. where did yours come from, and how did you administer?
Thanks!

Hi! I bought it from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UO0QOS/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_10?smid=A37RVYTDU289RG&psc=1, it's an oral one(for eating) meant for horses. I looked at this site to get the dosage: Ivermectin – Rat Guide

In the section Dosage Recommendations, in the paragraph that starts with Horsewormer paste 1.87%, it says that a dose for a rat weighting 1 lb or more is about the size of one small, uncooked grain of rice, and half of that for a rat weighing less than 1 lb. You give this dose once a week for three weeks.

I also couldn't find a place to buy revolution without a prescription. I don't know if it works better, but for me this ivermectin seems to have done the job, for now 2 of my rats (2nd one also got scabs).

Thank you for sharing the info. I've seen a rat suffering from overdoes, I really don't want to go that route!!
