Im assuming he didnt get physically hurt in the process?
(just a thought - dont kill me here....this is something you may want to consider w/ the breeding thing. having a cat be able to get that close to jump at a mama's cage could be emotionally NOT good for either mom or babies) I know that the breeders in my area have a breeding area in another part of the house from where ANY other animals can get access to.
