Now that we have a decent cage I've been trying to make some daily cuddle time with our rat pack. It's not easy sometimes...needy dogs, cats, human children...but around feeding time I set aside some time for just the rats. The method I've discovered isn't for everyone but it's working nicely for me. The cage door is wide, so after I put in the food dish there will be several rattys hanging out waiting for their turn. I open the door and put my face at the end of the door and let them come up and say hello. Of course with some rats it could hurt. But I've found letting them come to me makes a big difference. Putting my hand in and everyone scatters, but they'll take turns sniffing my face, then take turns climbing on my chest for a cuddle. Just a thought, especially for those of us with a whole cage full.
