Just got thinking, since Oxbow (what I feed my rats) already has protein added to it, would feeding my boys Hemp Hearts be giving them too much protein, since they do contain a lot of protein? I mix it in with their dry mix and they eat some daily.

Since you are feeding lab blocks, any additional food (outside of 10% of their daily intake) is going to fudge the levels and make their food imbalanced. So, if you are giving a lot of protein-heavy foods, you are going to increase the protein intake from 16% (Oxbow) to upper levels. For non-growing rats, more than 16% is bad and especially in old rats or males can cause kidney problems.
