Hey all!

My name is Shoko, I'm 19 and I recently upgraded from hamsters to rats. I've kept small animals since I was in the 3rd or 4th grade, so I like to think I know what I'm doing, but I probably don't. :D Those little buggers can always surprise you. I also keep a couple little fish tanks, and although my parents keep the dogs at home (I go to school 50 miles away), I like to think they're still mine too.

I recently bought my first rat, and after lots of research, I settled on a female dumbo hairless. I've heard they don't live as long, but they're just as adorable as any and I'm prepared to give her the best life possible. Her name is Picasso and she's still rather fuzzy almost everywhere, so we'll see how that goes.

Just thought I'd say hello and I hope that you guys can answer some questions of mine that I might have, and that I can prove to be just as useful to some of you guys as well. ! :)

~Shoko!

She is SO SO SO cute!!! Congrats! My first piece of advice for you would be to get her a friend. Rats do so much better in pairs or more. She would be so much happier. Think of how lonely she is when you're not there with her? Another rat would be a great idea!

i totally hear you on the rat friend thing. she gets played with a lot when i'm not home (i have 2 roomates whom i trust very much) but i'm sure she would be happier (and warmer) with a friend. i'm still working out what i want to get her as a friend though, since hairless rats have a few different needs...
