Hey every one! My name is Mikel, and Im 18 years old. I have had rats since I was 6 years old. (With the help of my parents when I was young lol) I dont have rats at the moment, but thats because we might be moving to the USA this summer, and I couldnt take them with me. But I had rats last year, but sadly they hit their end. Ebony had a tumer on her side, and she died, Then Holly died, the vet said she had a tumor behind her right eye. It was really sad. And Pagan took both of their deaths hard. She refused to eat, or drink. She would lay all and look at me, and when I took her out she would lick me, and jsut sit there. I put coolaid in her water, and she started drinking a bit, but not much. Poor baby died soon after.

I have 2 dogs, and three hermit crabs. Love all of them much. I always have fed my rats lab blocks. Ive always found them good because they cant pick the good stuff apart from the healthy not soo good stuff. Well thats about me. I tried not to make it too long, but it seems like it didnt work... lol... Hope to hear from everyone!

Welcome Mikel :D I'm sorry about your babies, they were very lucky to have you. :(

3 hermit crabs! Me too! We've had it hard the past 3-4 months; we HAD 8. We had saved 2 of our hermit crabs and they were doing great, eating right, active and then we lost the little one when she was moulting :( and then the big one. Then slowely the 6 went to down to 3. It was horrible. I suppose the 2 we saved were sick and had gotten some of the others sick as well.:( These 3, so far, have been doing fine. Its been a month or two now since we lost any. Its just horrible...We had had our hermits we almost 2 years, we watched them grow, moult, change shells...all that and then there gone. Now these 3 have a BIG tank all to themselves, haha it looks so empty. I think its a 20 gal, that or a 30 gal. I cant remember lol, we used to have our bearded dragon in it when she was just a baby but shes been upgraged to a 50 gal.

Thank you all for your welcomes! Jennielove- It is hard to wach the crabs molt. Just because you know the stress they are in, and that ANYTHING can happen. I started feeding more crickets to mine for the chitin. Have you heard of the HCA or the CSJ? They are messageboards for hermit crabs. Im sorry to hear about your losses. Hope it all works out.

I live in Germany now. Ive lived in the USA for 8 years, but came back here 2 and a half years ago. My step dad is in the army, so we move around alot..... Again thank you all for the Welcomes!!!

Thanks guys for the welcomes!! My dad is in the army too. We are still waiting on the next place we move to. If we get to stay here, I will get some more rats asap. If not I will wait until we moved and settled in. Thank you again for the welcomes!! Seems like there is a great group of people here!

Well, yeah you cant really WATCH them moult LMAO...I remember we got our first two hermits and the first thing they did was went under and didnt come back for a couple months, hehe. We always had a separate tank for the ones who were ready to moult. :) Yeah, its been hard however these three are doing great and Im thankful they didnt get the sickness the others had.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Just a little bit of advice... if your rats aren't drinking, it's better to offer Pedialyte rather can Koolaid, which is all sugar :)

Oh, I forgot about that! I haven't had Koolaid since I was a kid, so it's been quite a while :p

Also a good thing to have on hand is, if you have any farm supply type stores in your area, you can pick up powdered electrolytes. Although the packets are marketed toward horses, they work for all animals.
